A Trip for the Trip Coordinator

With over 30 scheduled trips for calendar year 2009, you can imagine my surprise when I was asked to plan one more trip-for myself! I recently had the opportunity to travel to San Pedro Sula and Tegucigalpa, Honduras to experience an Orphan Helpers trip first-hand.

My first stop included visits to the OH office and all 3 centers (Nueva Esperanza, El Carmen and Mujeres Adolescentes) in San Pedro Sula. I met our Country Coordinator for SPS, Maria Felix and our Office Manager, Daisy Salgado.

From San Pedro Sula, I traveled by bus to Tegucigalpa, where I stayed with the Torrech girls and met up with another Orphan Helpers team. I never expected a house full of so many girls at one time to be so much fun!

While with the team, I had the opportunity to visit Casitas Kennedy and 21st of October. I also met our Country Coordinator, Astrid Villars. It was a blessing to meet our Honduras staff members and to witness the amazing work they are doing!

Meeting so many broken children and bringing backs lists of their immediate needs was incredibly overwhelming. I was able to find joy in the fact, however, that so many stories with sad beginnings are growing in to happy endings. Christ's love has made a marked difference in the lives of these children. I am thankful to be a part of the ministry that brings the good news of the Gospel and a message of hope to these children!

If you are looking for ways to be a part of this great ministry, consider donating some of the following items:

Casitas Kennedy - diapers, formula, mattress pads for cribs, diaper rash cream, lotion
21st of October - teenage boy shoes and clothing, sports equipment
Mujeres Adolescentes - sewing machines, crochet needles, yarn
El Carmen - sports equipment (soccer balls)
Nueva Esperanza - diapers, craft supplies
Hogar Torrech - hygiene products

Glad you could go to Honduras, Anna and have a new perspective on the work OH does! I hope to follow your example in the future!
